LEADER Funding for Rural Business

LEADER Funding for Rural Businesses

The long-promised government grant funding has recently been approved, specifically for the benefit of rural businesses. We wrote about this programme in May and now that applications have opened, we bring you this update.

The LEADER programme is available in many rural areas across the UK and provides up to £50,000 of grant funding (more in exceptional circumstances) towards the total costs of a project. Farms and other businesses expanding or investing in new markets / ventures, are among the targets for this scheme, although there is detailed eligibility criteria.

What will LEADER fund?

LEADER will fund farmers, growers, foresters, other local rural businesses and rural community organisations to help:

  • Create jobs
  • Develop rural businesses
  • Support the rural economy

To be successful, applications must contribute to one or more of Defra’s 6 priorities for LEADER, which are to:

  1. Increase farm productivity;
  2. Support micro and small businesses and farm diversification;
  3. Boost rural tourism;
  4. Provide rural services;
  5. Provide cultural and heritage activities; and
  6. Increase forestry productivity

Please note: Logic PM are not agents for the scheme (it is an open scheme, sponsored by government) but we do like to spread the word about new funding opportunities for local businesses and are happy to help with honest advice and guidance wherever possible.
